• In pre-procedure consultations, patients and family can “fly” around the procedure room using an Xbox controller, while clinicians educate and communicate to lower anxiety through the process.
• The patient, family, and caregiver can experience the sights and sounds of the procedure.
• If the patient is comfortable, they can transition to the VR headset for a completely immersive first-person point of view.
  
  The foundational proof of concept study at Nebraska Medicine showed that with robust VR technology and Child Life intervention, 8 out of 33 patients completed radiation therapy without anesthesia, and the ‘mean’ age of sedation was reduced from 10 to 3. With reduced sedation, over 66 procedure hours were saved, making the rooms available for an additional 275 treatments.
